Lectora Tips and Tricks

Layer Lectora Elements on Top of Flash Files

To layer Lectora elements, such as buttons, on top of a Flash file that you’ve imported into Lectora, simply click on your animation and go to the properties tab. Next, select the parameters tab, add the parameter "wmode" in the name field and "opaque" in the value field.  This will enable you to layer elements on top of your Flash file.

This is a great tip if, for instance, you have an existing swf file that contains buttons, but you’d like to override the buttons in your swf file and instead use the buttons in Lectora.

Variable Manager

The variable manager in Lectora 2008 enables you to quickly and easily sort through variables within your title by viewing the names of variables used and where they are located. Utilize this helpful tool to save time and stay organized.

Easier Numbering

You can use a soft return (Shift + Enter) to space between numbered lists.  This enables you to align your text directly under the list above without having to add additional numerals.

P&G’s Long Partnership with Trivantis Yields Superior Results

P&G

Procter & Gamble, like many organizations, faces the constant challenge of training due to changes like new technology, globalizations, and organizational transformations. Traditional classroom training could not meet the pace of change nor the vast amount of global employees at P&G. The company’s mission has always been to provide high value learning when and where people need it, to do their jobs with excellence. To do this, P&G decided to use Trivantis’ authoring tool, Lectora, to build their web-based training. Right away, P&G noticed two important things about Lectora: it worked seamlessly with their LMS and it was simple enough for non technical people to learn, but was robust enough to provide experienced authors the functionality they desired.

After purchasing Lectora more than seven years ago, today there are approximately 415 developers across the globe at P&G creating content in Lectora. Courses are created on an array of topics such as sales training, product training, Human Resources training, Retail Finance training, and many other applications.

In addition to creating course content in-house with Lectora, P&G also utilizes Trivantis Custom Development Services (CDS) to create templates and courses for their Virtual University. CDS designs are not “template based” or “off the shelf”, but tailored specifically to P&G’s aesthetic as well as technical requirements. Once the courses are complete, P&G walks away with an original design that is their own and for which they have proprietary ownership and control. So, the hundreds of Lectora users within P&G are able to update all the work that CDS creates.

Trivantis has created 125 web-based courses for 35 different departments within P&G that has allowed them to reach as many as 46,668 people in just one month. In their last quality evaluation, 90% of end users rated the quality of the web based training as good to excellent.

The impact of the web based training service line and vendor partnership with Trivantis over the last seven years has yielded astonishing results for P&G. They were featured by Bersin & Associates as one of the top five rapid eLearning universities in the United States. P&G now provides 94,000+ web based training downloads a month accelerating their rate of training by four years. At an estimated savings of $75 per download, P&G saves millions each month, reaching people that otherwise would be unreachable faster than ever. Savings come from the elimination of classroom instructors, elimination of time necessary to grade tests, reduction in training materials, travel elimination, downtime elimination, overtime elimination, reduction in translation costs, and room cost elimination.

P&G has utilized Trivantis products and services to create thousands of online courses, save millions of dollars, and reach employees anywhere, anytime.
